Chilling Under The Blazing Sun

We had a weekend packed with birthday parties. On Saturday, little Luca, our neighbor right across, turned two. And on Sunday, we went to Ella's (the adorable toddler we got to know at the park) third birthday party. She had princess bounce house, pinatas and a huge Dora birthday cake. Kayla had a great time in the bounce house. Little Mia couldn't join in the fun so she spent most of the time chilling out on my lap while I was chatting with Ella's grandma. It was hot, to say the least, which explains why we stripped her down to her diapers.

Up Close

E is for Eczema. Turns out that's what Kayla has. Her paed says it's caused by super dry and sensitive skin and we've been instructed to keep her skin moisturized and to change her bath soap. I think it might have been triggered by spring allergies too, but we'll see. The rash from her forehead is mostly gone but her neck and back are starting to itch.

Some close-ups of the girls:

Finally took Kayla in for another hair cut. I thought the stray strands of long hair might have been irritating her neck. Me thinks she looks really cute with the new haircut, then again, I'm biased! :)

A Summer Day in Spring

Taking full advantange of the summer-like weather today, we pulled out the inflatable pool for Kayla to splash in and grilled hotdogs for lunch. Little Mia got a dip too when it got way hot.

All Smiles

You might recognize the dress that Mia's wearing (actually it'd be troubling if you did, ha!). It's the same dress Kayla wore for her first birthday party (see below).
Yes, Mia is a big baby. She's fast outgrowing her 6- to 9-month outfits and I'm already putting her in 12m onesies and dresses. She has a ton of cute summer dresses and I'm keeping my fingers crossed she won't outgrow them all by the start of summer.

Hand, Foot, Mouth and... Teeth

Today's what you'd call an eventful news day in our household. Mia got her first teeth--the left one on her bottom peeked out this morning. In less exciting news, Kayla's got the dreaded hand, foot, mouth disease. It's apparently been making its round among the kids in the neighborhood. We thought we escaped it but I guess not. I discovered a strange rash on her forehead two days ago but attributed it to the heat. Then some spots appeared on her arm yesterday--and again, I thought maybe she was allergic to something. Until this afternoon when a neighbor came over to let me her son had HFMD, it didn't occur to me the rash might be related. She took one look at the rash and said, "Yep, that's it."

Hopefully it'll clear up over the weekend. I'm praying Mia will dodge this bullet, but it's more than likely she's infected. Please keep the two little ones in your prayers.

Pre-HFMD discovery: We took a walk to a nearby park. Was test-driving Mia's new summer hat!
Quote of the day:
Kayla: I'm fashionable and you're not.
Me: Why?
Kayla: Because you're wearing a T-shirt and pants and a baseball cap. I'm wearing a dress, boots and pink hat. I'm fashionable.

Random Goodness

From yesterday (April 14): Kayla on her new princess bike. It's still a tad big for her (it's for 5 and up) but it was such a steal, we had to buy it.

Little Mia rummaging through her sister's stash of toys.

Kayla post-school. Hmm.. I didn't realize her little jumper doesn't look so little on her.

A Photo A Day

I haven't had much time (or energy) to blog lately. The weather's been nice so we've been taking walks in the neighborhood, going to the parks and just enjoying the gorgeous sunshine after a dreary and wet winter.

Just to make sure I'm still keeping track somewhat of the girls' growth, I've decided to start this little "A Photo A Day" project. After months of deliberating, I've finally took the plunge and got iphoned--which also means it's easier to take and upload photos of the girls. :)

Here are the opening shots:

Taken right after a walk round the block with the gals. Mia watching her sister in amazement as usual. And a very happy Kayla after she rounded up a pile of dead leaves, turning them into a make-believe nest for her make-believe feathered friends.
