The Dust Is Settling
Or not. We've managed to get the place to some sort of liveable state where no one trips on the way to the bathroom or has to scream for help when we've run out of toilet paper. But still, it's one humongous mess that I'll have to take time to clean up. And no, I'm not looking forward to it.
For the record, we've been on the move pretty much every two years.
2003: Singapore to the States.
2004: We move into our little condo at Alveswood, San Jose
2005: We move to a townhouse in San Jose
2007: We move to our little house in garlic country Gilroy
2010: We orchestrate a crazy move back to Singapore
2011: We move to good old Faber Heights.
And I don't think we'll be moving for a while. Our living space is tiny but what I'm thankful for are the wide, open spaces in the complex where the kids can bike, run and get plenty of fresh air. They're already loving the two playgrounds and we've finally taken their bikes and skate scooters out of storage. It reminds me a little of Gilroy where the kids would be biking in the evenings, running around and playing with one another. That alone is enough to put a big smile on my face. :)

Eye Spy
At the eye doctor - the eye drops caused both of us some distress...

So Eye See
After like a million tests and shuffling from room to room, I finally get the bad news. Kayla's case is rather severe - 750 on her right eye and perfect vision on her left.
The prescription: 3 hours of patching every day and glasses from dawn to dusk. The doc warned that it'd be hard work. Expect resistance. Perhaps try a reward system. So I've told Kayla that for every patch she wears, she'll get a star. And the stars she gets can be traded for prizes.
10 stars = my little pony
20 stars = a tiny care bear
30 stars = a Barbie doll
100 stars = the ultimate Barbie penthouse she's been eyeing on youtube for the longest time
We collect the glasses on Wednesday so until then, I've just been trying to psych her up. She knows she'll be the first in class to wear glasses. That patching her left eye might get uncomfortable. And she can explain to me why she needs to do all these. "I need to tell my brain to use the other eye, Mommy!"
For now, the enthusiasm is through the roof and I'm hoping it stays that way... Sigh.

Lazy Eye
It affects 4 to 5 percent of kids in America...and who would have guessed Kayla would fall into this select group? For starters, I know next to nothing about it except that it's an eye condition that exists. I didn't notice anything strange about how she was using her eyes. No signs, no symptoms, nary a word of complaint. So when I got the referral letter for the Health Promotion Board via her school nurse, I thought nothing about it.
But when they screened her today and I noticed how she could barely see that huge picture on the wall, I knew something was wrong. Terribly wrong.
So we're off to see a paedietric opthamologist tomorrow to figure things out. Supposedly her brain has tricked her into using only one eye. Hopefully we can rewire it and improve the eye that's been slacking off for goodness knows how long. Sigh.
Why does life have to so so exciting?
*fingers crossed*
